Fine particles from air pollution and atheroma

Above 3 micro g/ml of fine particles in ambient air  you may experience accelerated atheroma in carotid (and other) arteries. The effect of air pollution on chronic inflammation accelerates atheroma as tars and smother smoke products from tobacco.
Subsidies to diesel gasoline are indeed a subsidy to harmful particles for human being.
Present environmental policies are focused on CO2 and the risk of pollutants like fine particles is probably underestimated although it impacts present human health.
Better environmental policies should take in account the Pigou's concept of negative externalities and tax those emissions instead of taxing only CO2!
